A lot of money is being invested today in traveling; cruise lines, resort package deals, and air travel can easily run into thousands of dollars and if you have invested some of that money on a trip and can risk losing it all. Even now, many tourists do not believe that the cost of travel insurance is worth it and put everything at risk by traveling without it.

However, this attitude does not really make sense when you consider the potential problems that can befall any vacation it is amazing and the cost of this protection is a miserly 5 to 10 percent of the total cost of the vacation package. Of course the worst type of incidents are when a person cannot go on vacation because they have injured themselves or contracted an illness but either way, money can be lost, in cancellation charges or medical expenses.

Remember that if you cancel at the last minute for any reason you will lose all the money you have paid out with no recourse. Travel insurance cover will allow for situations like this along with emergency repatriation, medical expenses, stolen or lost luggage, airline delays and many more incidents that can become expensive.

Sometimes a traveler must cancel their vacation and this could result in a traveler losing nonrefundable deposits and prepayments that add up to hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Any good travel insurance plan should ensure you are covered for vacation and trip cancellation in which case any money that has been paid towards the trip can be claimed back.

This type of cover also allows for the vacation being interrupted for any reason and will refund the traveler for payments he has made towards the trip. Some travel insurance policies do not cover terrorism and they may only cover terrorist acts that occur in foreign countries whilst others can cover terrorist incidents both in the United States and abroad.

Whilst travel insurance is not expensive and many are as low as 5 percent of the vacation cost, this percentage will rise, generally as a result of the persons age who is taking the insurance out. Provide you purchase your travel insurance within fifteen days of the vacation deposit you should be covered if the airline, cruise company or tour operator file for bankruptcy.

You may often find that your credit card will cover the user for certain areas of their travel which will therefore not be needed as part of the travel insurance. Duplications in insurance coverage will merely mean you are paying for something twice so it is worth your while checking other policies before you finally commit. The fine print on insurance policies can be confusing but is necessary to check as you may be laboring under the false belief that you are covered on areas of the travel insurance for another policy but are not insured at all.
